Hanson School District

On Wednesday, January 20, Hanson’s guidance counselor, Yolanda Price, and the Hanson eighth grade class left Alexandria bright and early to travel to Wagner to take part in a career fair. The class spent the morning exploring a variety of different career options, ranging from business to nursing.

Eighth grader, Taryn Holm, commented about the fair, “There were a lot of hands-on activities and jobs that I didn’t know about. One nursing station had a banana and orange with stitches, and the nurses let us take them out after teaching us how. We also got to experience how to do CPR.”

Max Baker visited a welding station and found it interesting. Baker stated, “They had a simulator set up and taught me how to weld. It was kind of like a game, but it was pretty real.”

Later in the morning, Price and the students headed back toward home, but they had more to see. The second stop of the day was at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell and, thirdly, Mitchell Technical College. Both colleges provided the students with a campus tour and answered any questions that were asked.
