The Hanson varsity Beavers were in Mitchell on Saturday, February 15, to play the Wessington Springs Spartans in the Dakota Wesleyan University Culver’s Classic.

The Beavers stuck with the Spartans in the first quarter, scoring 13 points to the Spartans 14 points. In the second quarter, the Spartans distanced themselves from the Beavers, scoring 17 points to the Beavers’ eight. Halftime score was Hanson 21, WS 31. In the second half, the Beavers were not able to overcome their deficit to the Spartans. The Beavers fell to the Spartans, 61-49, and moved their record to 10-7.

Leading the team in scoring was AJ Wilber with 16 points followed by Ben Wilber put up 11 points. Sutton Dewald cashed in eight points while Tye Hernandez and Carter Popp added seven points apiece.

Dewald dished out five assists in the game.

B. Wilber grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the team. A. Wilber and Dewald had five rebounds each.

Defensively, Conner Endorf had two steals and B. Wilber tallied two blocks.

The Beavers shot nine-of-24 (37.5%) from the field; hit six-of-26 (23.1%) from three point range; and sank 13-of-17 (76.5%) from the free throw line.

The Hanson boys’ basketball team will be in Chamberlain on Tuesday, February 18, and travel to Canton on Thursday, February 20.
