Hanson School Beaver Chatter - March 11 Edition

The Hanson Beaverettes competed in the South Dakota State Class A Girls Basketball Tournament at Dacotah Bank Center in Brookings on March 7-9.

The Beaverettes entered the state tournament as the number seven seed and faced the number two seed, Sioux Falls Christian Chargers, in their first game of the evening session on Thursday, March 7.

The ladies battled the Chargers throughout the game but came up short, 53-42. Leading the team in scoring was Eliza Oltmanns with 14 points followed by Alyssa Moschell and Taziah Hawkins with 13 points each.

Cadence Jarding dished out three assists in the game.

Moschell led the team in rebounding with 10 rebounds. Kylie Haiar pulled down nine rebounds while Oltmanns had six rebounds.

Defensively, Oltmanns marked three steals in the game and Haiar had one block.

The Beaverettes shot 14-of-41 (34%) from the field; hit three-of-13 (23%) from three point range; and sank 11-of-16 (69%) from the free throw line.

With the loss, the Beaverettes moved to the afternoon session on Friday, March 8, against the number three seed, Flandreau Fliers. The ladies fell to the Fliers, 65-33. Oltmanns led all scorers with nine points. Moschell cashed in eight points while Hawkins and Haiar added six points apiece.

Moschell led the team in rebounding with five rebounds followed by Oltmanns with three boards.

Jarding and Oltmanns dished out two assists each in the game.

Oltmanns and Moschell recorded one block apiece.

The Beaverettes shot 11-of-50 (22%) from the field; hit three-of-22 (14%) from three point range; and sank eight-of-nine (89%) from the charity stripe.

For their final game of the tournament, the ladies faced the Mt. Vernon/Plankinton Titans in the seventh place game. The Beaverettes were defeated by the Titans, 60-49. Oltmanns led the team in scoring with 14 points followed by Hawkins with 13. Moschell put up 10 points while Haiar had nine points.

Jarding and Hawkins marked three assists each in the game.

Leading the team in rebounding was Oltmanns with nine rebounds followed by Haiar with seven. Moschell grabbed six rebounds.

The team shot 18-of-52 (35%) from the field; hit six-of-20 (30%) from three point range; and sank seven-of-11 (64%) from the free throw line.

The Beaverettes end their season with a 17-8 record.
